I was recently browsing template files and I've noticed that some Deviants are using a PNG format exported by "Fireworks". The PNG format, by design, does not support layers and the use of this format in this manner makes files that are not compliant with anything other than "Fireworks".

This format cannot be opened with anything open source and the developer responsible for this format should have, at the very least, used a different extension to indicate that these are not compliant PNG files. Yes, they view perfectly fine on open source software... but this format is being used here on DevArt to share templates for stamps and the like.

Please. If you want to share layered files, please share them as PSD or XCF format files. These formats are supported by open source software and the items you want to share with layers retained will be usable by a wider range of Deviants.

It doesn't matter what your opinion of open source software is. Using compliant formats show respect for your community, which is what sharing is all about.
